pen: dalen cwcis · yn rhwystro
Moment 1 · Rhwystrwr yn dal y sgrin
Giât gyfreithiol yw’r ddalen cwcis, felly mae’n rhwystro: nid oes dim y tu ôl iddi yn rhedeg nes iddi gael ei hateb. Nid yw’r ddau y tu ôl iddi wedi’u canslo, ac nid ydynt yn rasio yn ei herbyn. Aros y maent.

pen: cerdyn croeso · yn rhwystro
Moment 2 · Y ciw yn symud ymlaen
Ar ôl ei hateb, mae’r ddalen yn gadael a’r cerdyn croeso yn cymryd y pen. Mae hwnnw’n rhwystro hefyd, ond am reswm gwahanol, dewis cynnyrch yn hytrach nag un cyfreithiol, ac mae lle yn rhyddhau y tu ôl iddo.

pen: gwobrau · yn gadael ohono’i hun
Moment 3 · Wedi’i amseru, ac wedi’i ymyrryd
Nid yw’r tost gwobrau yn mynnu dim ac mae’n cyfrif ei hun allan. Nid yw’r faner gysylltiad uwch ei ben yn y ciw o gwbl: mae’n cyrraedd pan fô ’r rhwydwaith yn diflannu, yn ei haen ei hun, dros beth bynnag sy’n dangos. Penderfynu beth sydd yn y ciw yw hanner y cynllun.
Llun yw hwn. Nid oes dim yma yn rhedeg y llyfrgell, ail-luniad o ap The Very Group yw’r ffôn yn hytrach na sgrinlun ohono, ac mae’r consol o dan bob un yn ddyfais esboniadol nad oedd gan yr ap erioed. Mae geiriau’r ap ei hun wedi’u gadael yn Saesneg, am mai dyna a ddywedai. Dangosir y tri moment gyda’i gilydd yn fwriadol: dim ond mewn un ohonynt y mae ciw go iawn byth, felly byddai llun o un ar y tro yn eich gwahodd i’w gamgymryd am y peth ei hun.
Animeiddiad yw hwn, nid y llyfrgell yn rhedeg. Mae’n chwarae un sgript sefydlog drosodd a throsodd, mae’r tapiau ynddo yn rhan o’r sgript honno, ac nid oes modd pwyso dim arno. Ail-luniad o ap The Very Group yw’r ffôn yn hytrach na recordiad ohono, ac mae’r consol oddi tano yn ddyfais esboniadol nad oedd gan yr ap erioed. Mae geiriau’r ap ei hun wedi’u gadael yn Saesneg, am mai dyna a ddywedai.

A deep link swallowed because something else was mid-presentation is one of the failures users notice most.

deep link received · cancelling queue
Moment 1 · A deep link arrives mid-sequence
The rewards toast is showing and counting itself out, with the onboarding card queued behind it. A notification is tapped. The arrow follows the tap: before anything navigates, it goes to the queue.

Moment 2 · The queue is cancelled first
Everything still waiting is discarded, so the onboarding card never appears. It is not postponed, and it does not come back later.

Moment 2, continued
Then the toast is shut down. The bracket is the part of its wait it used, and the tick is where the tap cut it off. Its exit still plays to the end: a wait can be interrupted, an animation cannot.

queue empty · navigating
Moment 3 · Then the deep link runs
Only once the current item has gone does the navigation start. Nothing is presented over a screen that is leaving, and the link is not swallowed by whatever was showing.
This is a drawing, not the library running. The phone is a redrawing of The Very Group’s app rather than a screenshot of it, and the notification and the product page were drawn for this figure. The console under each phone is an explanatory device the app never had, and the numbered blue marks are annotations drawn over the figure, not part of the app.
This is an animation, not the library running. It plays one fixed script on a loop, the taps in it are part of that script, and nothing on it can be pressed. Important Message Interruption
An important message does not jump the queue. It takes three calls: cancel the queue, enqueue the message, then enqueue the dropped items again behind it.

head: legal · blocking, awaiting answer
Moment 3 · It goes first, and the rest follow
The toast’s exit has played, and the legal message presents at once, with the onboarding card waiting behind it. On screen it looks as if the message was inserted at the front.
This is a drawing, not the library running. The phone is a redrawing of The Very Group’s app rather than a screenshot of it, and the legal message was drawn for this figure and is not their wording. Basic Principles (Library Demo App)
The library’s own demo app, redrawn. No phone and no product: just the queue, one banner at a time, with the ring showing how much of a wait is left and how much was thrown away.
Reduced motion is on, so the animation is replaced by three still frames from the same script.
Decision 1 holds the queue. It has no countdown, and Warning 2 waits behind it.
Phase: waiting for a tap. No countdown and no end to the ring, because it waits on a person for as long as it takes.
Cancel empties the queue. Warning 2 loses the rest of its rest, and its exit still plays.
Phase: sliding out. The rest was cut short with 0.7 s left; the exit plays in full. The ring holds the rest that was thrown away.
Important discards everything that was waiting and takes over.
Phase: resting, with 1.6 s of 2.9 s left on the ring. Important rests for longer than a normal banner, and Important 2 waits behind it.
This is a drawing, not the library running. It redraws the demo app that shipped with the library in 2022, with the product removed so only the queue is left. The banner wording was written for this figure. The ring is an explanatory device the demo showed as a countdown and nothing in a real app draws.
This is an animation, not the library running. It plays one fixed script on a loop, the taps in it are part of that script, and nothing on it can be pressed. It redraws the demo app that shipped with the library in 2022, so an important message here discards what was waiting and never brings it back, which is what that demo did and what Important Message Interruption deliberately does not do. The banner wording was written for this figure, and the ring is an explanatory device that nothing in a real app draws.

Car rasio wedi’i orchuddio â sticeri noddwyr yw’r ddelwedd. Mae pawb wedi prynu lle ar yr un wyneb, a neb wedi cytuno sut maen nhw’n ei rannu. Mae gan ap manwerthu mawr yr un broblem, ond mewn amser yn hytrach nag mewn arwynebedd. Ysgrifennwyd pob llif gan dîm gwahanol, ac mae pob un yn rhesymol ar ei ben ei hun.
Mae rhestr flaenoriaeth sefydlog yn trin yr achos hawdd a dim un o’r rhai go iawn. Rhaid i’r dilyniant oroesi ymyriad: dolen ddofn yn cyrraedd yng nghanol llif, canslo, ciw sy’n cael ei atal a’i ailgychwyn yn hytrach na’i ailddechrau o’r dechrau, a digwyddiadau newydd yn cael eu mewnosod tra bo’r ciw eisoes yn rhedeg.
Os aiff hyn o chwith, dyma’r methiannau y mae defnyddwyr yn sylwi arnynt fwyaf. Ffenestr dros ffenestr. Anogiad yn ailymddangos ar ôl cael ei ddiswyddo. Dolen ddofn yn cael ei cholli am fod rhywbeth arall yng nghanol ei gyflwyniad.
Llyfrgell ailddefnyddiadwy a oedd yn caniatáu datgan y dilyniannau hynny yn hytrach na’u cydlynu â llaw, wedi’i hadeiladu ar Combine ac OperationQueue. Gellir atal a chanslo ciwiau, gellir ffurfweddu dibyniaethau rhyngddynt, a gellir mewnosod digwyddiadau pellach tra bo ciw yn rhedeg.
Y canlyniad yw bod canslo diogel ac ail-giwio dan ymyriad yn briodwedd o’r mecanwaith, yn hytrach nag yn rhywbeth y mae’n rhaid i bob tîm nodwedd gofio ei weithredu. Roedd yn rhedeg ar draws tri ap iOS label gwyn a oedd yn gyfrifol am dros £100M o refeniw misol.
